It seems to be best to approach the animal from the back in order to feed it. Watch out if you change the food because the taming process may be reset. This is indicated by the feeding dialog switching to red lettering. Too long of a gap between feedings, and the taming progress starts to decline. When the Bar at the bottom of the nameplate fills to 100% the animal is tamed and you may name them. Repeat damaging and trapping with the Bola -then feeding-until the animal's taming meter is full. Try crouching or going prone to reduce your aggro visibility. Animals will attack if you are too close, but you need to be close to the mouth to get the option to feed it. You will need to approach the mouth of the animal and feed it with the action button e with its favorite food. When the Animal is Bola'ed they will be knocked to the ground. For skittish animals like the Cat's found in freeports you will need to be crouched or prone, and have invested in the sneaking skills to avoid spooking them when you get close.įor animals that cannot be tamed passively (see list below), the animal must be damaged to below 20%, then a Bola will be able to be used on an Animal.Simply approach the animal and feed it as described above. Once the affinity bar reaches 100%, you will have succeeded and you may name your newly tamed pet. Increasing the affinity skill in the Beastmastery tree will reduce your taming time substantially. Regardless of the choice of food, you must wait 20 seconds before feeding again. Smaller animals such as the Seagull commonly have the prompt appear anywhere on their body due to their smaller size, however, some players may experience better success with larger animals such as a Giraffe or Elephant by approaching its belly and staring towards the head to feed it.

To succeed, approach the head of the animal and walk around it until you see the prompt. Feed the animal by placing the food it desires in the last slot of your Hotbar and pressing the action button e while standing close enough for the feed prompt to appear. To be tamed it must be given its preferred food.
